Currently on display at Kulturhuset in Stockholm is the exhibition Total Metal, curated by journalist Ika Johannesson. The exhibition tells the story of how the extreme music scene grew from teenage bedrooms to major arenas. The exhibition opens with a short film by director Jonas Åkerlund, who delivers a five-minute, condensed history of Swedish metal.

Two albums considered highly influential in shaping the Swedish death metal scene are Slaughter of the Soul by At The Gates and Left Hand Path by Entombed—both released by the legendary British label Earache Records and distributed by Sound Pollution.
