OZ - Fire in the Brain LP*

The highly acclaimed Euro-metal pioneers Oz were originally founded in 1977 in the small Finnish town of Nakilla. The band consisted of Mark Ruffneck (real name Pekka Mark) on drums, singer Ape De Martini (Eero Hämäläinen), bassist Tauno Vajavaara, and Kario Elo on guitar.
Five years after their formation, Oz released their debut album. With hits like “Saturday Night,” “Capricorn Man,” and the risqué “Second-Hand Lady,” Oz quickly rose to become the number one heavy metal band in Scandinavia.
Subsequently, they relocated to Stockholm, where their acclaimed second album, “Fire In The Brain,” was recorded in 1983. The record contained highly energetic heavy metal anthems such as “Fortune,” “Megalomaniac,” and “Gambler.” Canadian journalist Martin Popoff, in his "Collector's Guide to Heavy Metal," awarded it 9 out of 10 points, writing: "Fire in the Brain is a dark, almost depressive record that hits the listener like a freight train. It's a very European-sounding work – from the apocalyptic-sounding 'Searchlights' to the viscous 'Black Candles' and the massive title track, absolutely no prisoners are taken."
"Fire in the Brain" received excellent reviews in the music press of the time (most notably in the British magazine *Metal Forces*). Drummer Pekka Mark said in an interview for a major Finland special in the German magazine *Rock Hard*: "It's probably our most popular record. 'Fire in the Brain' changed my life, and the lives of the rest of Oz as well. We were all living in Stockholm at the time and could concentrate fully on the music. 'Fire in the Brain' was licensed in many countries, in Germany, for example, by RCA." Some magazines listed the album as one of the best albums of 1983 – and a lot of good records were released that year.”
